Applause

• Published 7 times during the performing arts season
• Distributed throughout the season to the Music Center at Strathmore
• Median household income of more than $150,000

Alter handles the design, editorial, sales, production, printing and distribution. Applause publishes seven times per year [September to June]. It ranges from 64-96 pages, plus cover.

Publishing two issues before the doors of the Music Center at Strathmore even opened was challenging at best, especially on the advertising side. Our strategy was to create more magazine than program guide and to invite people into the inner workings of Strathmore. The design needed to reflect the hall itself…….open, inviting, fresh and contemporary. The editorial direction followed that lead. The first issue [September/October 2005] of the new season was 96 pages plus covers and exceeded its sales goal.

Every one of our projects is customized to the needs of our clients. Some have needs that are completely full service: magazine development, design, editorial, advertising sales, ad layout, print management services, and distribution. Others entail one or more of the services mentioned above.

When we first sat down with Alter we were months from opening the new Music Center at Strathmore but our conversations began to put a shape to the type of publication we were hoping to produce. One of the most difficult areas for us is that we have four major partner organizations that perform at Strathmore and each has their own particular needs and wish list. In a way, we challenged Alter to create a team ready for the challenge of launching a new program guide/magazine in a competitive environment answering to four different performing arts organizations. They did it! From the editor and designer through the ad sales team, the Alter group has worked with us to create a great-looking, well-received magazine that continues to grow and evolve.
