About Face: The Supermodels, Then and Now
The New York Times has a report today on what sounds like a fascinating glimpse into the afterlife of supermodels. I say “afterlife” because we’re talking the years beyond those of fame and glory. And, for some, beauty.
What happens to the most gorgeous of the gorgeous when they age? Society tends to treat women after a certain age as invisible (well, the U.S. does, anyway).
Isabella Rossellini, Paulina Porizkova, Beverly Johnson, and Jerry Hall are just some of the models featured in the HBO documentary that airs Monday night.
The film, directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, also features that most stunning of les femmes d’un certain age, Carmen Dell’Orefice.

Whoa, boy. Yeah, I know she’s had some help, but still.

You don’t look like that just from plastic surgery. If that were the case, everyone could look this dazzling (50 bucks says she never fried herself in the sun either).
She’s still modeling and still knocking ‘em dead at 81.

I know what I’m setting my DVR to record Monday night!
Let us know what you think…
soooooo, about 15 years ago, I hurried into the rundown restroom at the old Marineland in FL where I volunteered.
I was surprised to see someone in there with make up spread all over up and down the ledge under the mirror.
I suddenly remembered that there was going to be a publicity shot with a model.
This person was a short woman and pretty without makeup….I said hi and she smiled and returned the greeting.
and then I noticed….the gap… between her teeth and then realized who it was. Right there in the seedy, rundown bathroom was the one and only Lauren Hutton!
All I could think of was…she could hear me behind the bathroom door.
It was rather surreal.
That looks really interesting. Looking forward to seeing it.
I think I want to come over and watch it with you. I think you’re on target to join this crowd yourself. I think ... um, I think I need surgical intervention asap.
