Crosby Street Hotel
Savvy is just going to come out with it: She’s slept around. A lot. As she finds herself in Manhattan several nights a month, she’s bedded down with one and all— from classic, buttoned-up Upper East siders to happening downtown hipsters. And left each experience feeling oddly unsatisfied. The Mark? Lovely, but the 70 year-old Euro crowd is just not her scene. The Carlyle? Thankfully, they lost the chintz but sadly kept the overstuffed vibe. In midtown, the Mandarin Oriental has sleek, tiny rooms that cost big bucks (ditto for the Setai). Despite being disappointed at several downtown digs (the most traumatic being the Trump Soho, where the Donald must have run out of money for bathroom doors), Sav has finally (finally!) found her happy place: the Crosby Street Hotel. Fabulous but still functional, cool but still caring, CSH is like that hotel in Paris or London you wish was your flat. The rooms feel homey but not too familiar (you still want to feel away, after all), the restaurant buzzes pleasantly at all hours of the day yet there is always room for you (and cocktails in the courtyard are simply divine). The staff seems genuinely happy to be there and (more importantly) genuinely happy you are there. As Savvy checked in for her latest stay, the actress Jennifer Coolidge turned to her and said “Don’t you just love this place?” Actually, Jennifer, after years of one-night stands, I am finally ready to say “I do.” 79 Crosby St., New York City, 212-226-6400
